FAQ’s

Find answers to common questions below.

What do I need to do to get physical therapy services?

You need to obtain a prescription from your physician for physical therapy. This must have a diagnosis with the frequency or number of visits.

Are your services covered by insurance?
Yes, we are providers for most third party insurance companies. Contact your insurance company to determine if you have a copay or how much your copay will be.
What is a biomechanical assessment?
This is an evaluation of your body’s alignment and ability to move. It includes sections that assess posture, gait, trigger point palpation, flexibility, balance and core strength. The results of the biomechanical assessment allow the clinician to tailor an exercise program specific to each individual’s needs.
What is the difference between machines and free weights?
The human body was designed to move in 3 planes of motion yet machines focus on single joint movements in a one-dimensional approach. This is a stark contrast to the demands encountered each day in our daily activities. Even movements such as getting out of a car demand triplanar functionality. Free weight and functional body weight exercises are used to teach the body to function in these three planes of motion.
How soon should my pain decrease?
Many times, pain is immediately relieved during the session. Long-term pain relief is dependent on many variables such as severity of the injury, functional strength and flexibility. Most MIHP clients see a positive change within one to two weeks.
I have a prescription for PT but it has another clinic's name on it. Can I still use it at MIHP?
YES, by law you have the choice to go to physical therapy where you choose regardless of name or address on the prescription.
What insurance does MIHP accept?

BCBS, PPOM, Medicare, United Health Care, M-Care PPO, Auto Claims and Work Comp Claims, HAP HMO, HAP PPO. If you are unsure whether we accept your insurance, feel free to call us at (248)269-0230.

How long do the sessions last?
Between 1 hour and 90 minutes.
Can I do the exercise at home or do I need to be supervised?
Once you are trained to complete each exercise with proper technique and functionality, you will be given the freedom to complete the exercises outside of the clinic.
